Both myself and the Elf have slighted him. It'd be rude to go on with life without letting him get all grumpy and up in arms about it. I don't particularly fancy just writing a sentence long post either stating that 'Engelbert notices an odd looking stranger'.

Aye, but i don't know what they'd buy with until they got some funding from the human/anja settlements.
There's no currency on Feral Isle... there's never been need for one. Foods and goods are simply traded.
