Role play Example:
He had been running for hours, well not exactly running, but mostly attempting to, it was difficult to travel here , especially during night time.It was raining, dark heavy rain, shortening sight dramatically and turning soil into deep mud and filling up pits in the ground with deep murky waters. The mud was however not the only difficulty in these parts of the land, dark trees with roots that could easily entangle your feet, slippery rocks wherever you tried to make your way and large ponds of dark greenish water, often bubbling as if boiling would force you to make detours , detours that may very well cost hours. He paused for a moment, catching his breath, listening to the sounds of the swamp. He tried to determine whether he was still followed or not, exhaustion made it difficult, more difficult than it should, he thought. He didn’t hear anything alarming, a moments respite.
He looked down on his clothing, dark gray and black to the colour was perfectly camouflaged in the swamp, was by now soaked from the waist down and he could hardly feel his toes due to the cold water.
He walked for a bit, slow in pace, but always moving forward, carefully listening for anything that might be a danger.
He had regained some of his vitality now, enough to fasten up the pace into a slow running. He ran, past trees, most of them dead, ducking under branches and avoiding pits. One mistake, slipped on a flat rock, mud and moss had turned it into a trap, next thing he knew there was water.
The cold dark water pressed through his thick clothing and the cold cut straight to the bone.
He couldn’t see, only the blurry contrast of trees to the night sky.
The water was deep and his vision was blurred further as he quickly sank.It felt as if he was sinking for several yards, and that it proceeded for several minutes, but it took merely seconds and he did not sink deeply, but it was enough to bring fear and panic to his mind, clouding his vision and thought. He attempted to swim, in any direction since he didn’t see where he was or where he was going, but what direction he took, hardly mattered , he only hoped to reach land soon.He swam for a short time and eventually managed to drag himself up on a muddy shore, where he lay down on his back.
He lay there for a minute maybe more maybe less, he didn’t know.
His entire body ached, from exhaustion and from the many blows from trees and rocks he had endured, as he got to his feet.
I have to keep moving, he thought, slowly beginning to walk into the darkness...
