Appearance:
Ogres are essentially very large humans. They stand approximately nine feet tall, and tend to have large stomachs and pale skin. Their large stomachs come from how they gorge themselves on whatever food source they can secure. Their pale skin might seem odd at first concidering their desert life. It is important to the Ogres that they stay within their caves during the daytime and only actually emerge at night. This noctunal lifestyle has kept their skin un-tanned and quite sensitive to bright sunlight now.
They have only two fingers and a thumb, making the majority of tools unusable. Instead they stick to large, two-handed weaponry. They have large feet with only two toes, their feet could be described as almost oval-shaped.
Their heads are small to lessen heat loss, with large lower lips that seem to hang out. Their eyes are small and set deep in their skulls, and they have the ability to fold what looks to be their eyebrows down to cover their eyes in the event of a sandstorm. They don’t have noses, they rather have small slits for nostrils that don’t become clogged with sand and dirt.
History:
Ogres originally came from the desert, never wandering too far from an initial camp site which is generally set in the side of a mountain. Their source of food is by butchering whatever animals they can find on the hunt, and it always has been. Even Ogres that live outside the desert only live in rock faces or caves.
They only came to live in places outside of their initial deserts when other races led them there during a chase. Most Ogres are violent creatures, murdering everything outside their group which is determined by what colour they use for war paint. The most peaceful tribe of Ogres tend to be Marsh Ogres, but they are easily upset and the risk of being killed during a visit is too high for other races to bother making peace with them.
Way of Life:
Ogres sleep for most of the day, inside caves or primitive huts made of wood and animal skin. They hunt at night to avoid the sun, but are somewhat mal-adapted to do so. Their eyes limit their night vision, and they tend to only catch a few scraps of food. This has lead to a few results;
Some Ogre families are only very small to limit the amount of food needed.
Some Ogre families resort to cannibalism during times of famine.
Other Ogre families hunt during the day, risking dehydration to hunt for more food.
They are also known to have developed a method of water desalination using the pelt of a particular desert animal, which is highly important considering their desert life.
Ogres are very unintelligent beings, possessing speech limited to short grunts or cries, impeded by their lip. They are also highly ignorant to the use of certain items, or simply don’t care. They have been observed using Troglodyte crossbows as clubs, shoes and hats - Often for the Shaman.
The Shaman is the leader of the village, guiding his family through visions brought on by standing out in the heat until he passes out, he is then dragged back into the cave and the Ogres wait for him to awake and decide what they should do. This is, however, very rare as their life tends to revolve around simpler things such as what to eat, where to sleep and when to go outside.
Faith:
Ogres believe in following vision brought on by the heat of the sun. They believe these visions are brought on by ‘Viziers’, keepers of particular aspects such as the Vizier of Lightning, the Vizier of Air and the Vizier of Hunting.
