This is the old homeland of the Elves. Over 30 years ago these lands were invaded by the dreaded Harpies and the Elves were forced to run for their lives and seek safety in other lands. Now the Forests of Nerek'Thaler, or the Fallen Woods, are overrun with a blight of Harpies. These foul creatures are spread throughout the whole of the Forest and attack any who seek to reclaim the homeland of the Elves.
Many many villages, towns and cities remain in the canopy of the trees but they have fallen into ruin. The trees of Nerek'thaler are the largest and most impressive of all Archidet. Each tree was capable of supporting one or two families within its boughs or hollowed trunk.
Of all these Canopy Cities, Ashkerlon was the most impressive. This was the main City of the Elves and served as their Capital City. At the center of the city was an enormous tree that the Elves lovingly named 'The Heart'. The Heart had, for an untold number of generations, been the living space of the royal elves and their guests. The Heart was one of the largest trees that the Elves had come across in Nerek'Thaler but this was not what made it so special. The Heart was almost completely hollow from halfway to its base to its canopy. Because of the size of the tree, this meant that a total of seventeen rooms could be fitted just into its trunk. These rooms could then be reached by a staircase that spiraled around the outside of the tree down its trunk. Each room had a separate doorway that had been carefully cut to both make sure the tree was injured as little as possible and so that the tree maintained its structural integrity. As the Elves said, The Heart would remain beating at the center of Elven life and the Elves would remain beating at the center of The Heart.
It seems a tragic twist of fate that this magnificent hub of culture, pride and joy should be lost to the least appreciative of the races.
Though the Harpies do tend to congregate around the Cities and towns of the Elves, they do so only for shelter from the weather. No Elf has seen The Heart since the day they fled to the coast but each hopes, and passes on that hope, that The Heart still beats strongly and has not corrupted from the inside without the loving care of the Elves.
The Harpies regularly hunt in the dense Forest areas for invaders or prey to feast upon. Prey does appear to be dwindling though as more and more harpies appear to be setting upon one another. The weaker of the Harpies are cut down and fed upon, believed to be less worthy of life than their peers.
Few attacks on the Harpies from either the Elves or the Humans have been made due to the density of the forest undergrowth. It makes it very difficult to see far ahead and many times make them easy prey for marauding Harpies.
