The people of Shrenk’s rule are divided by a strict hierarchy – The rich are rich and the poor are poor. The rich and poor have the most different style of life that it’s comparable to Anja and Elves. Also, the Anja that have converted to Shrenk’s rule have adopted the culture of either the rich or poor depending on which they are.
The upper class, the rich.
The rich usually did not work to become so, they usually are either descended from rich people or are owners of a large business where workers do all the work and they take all the earnings. Their culture is considered the most exquisite and they often mock others for their lack of it – even the Elves.
Gender equality:
Men are vastly superior to women in this social structure, they are considered incapable of sport and also incapable of intelligence. Men outnumber women in this social category three to one, though this doesn’t bother the lucky women who enter this upper class as they consider having ‘pick of the litter’ and very little responsibility or expectations a boon. They are also the envy of lower class women as they outnumber men and they are never going to be able to become upper class.
Women are to look pretty, but they must also be decent. Decency in upper class Beauty or Face of the Gods is revealing nothing beyond the elbows, or the elbows themselves. Total coverage is expected.
Men are somewhat luckier, they are considered the brunt of culture and their actions are considered the defining aspect. They are the ones who ask the women to dances or dinners, they are the ones who partake in the sport and business; they are the ones who support their loving, beautiful wives. That is the dream. The reality is more along the lines of the men being rejected by all women with only the richest of the rich getting any women after them at all… Usually all of them at once, too. Rich men are ignored, billionaires are fought over.
Clothing:
The women may not wear trousers or pantaloons, that would be preposterous to reveal their figure in such a way! Instead, women are expected to wear exquisite dresses that hide their frame totally from observation, and they are to have large and complicated hair-dos. That isn’t the end of it either; they are to have faces that show no signs of work or tanning from being outside. This has led lower class or ‘outsiders’ to comically call upper class women vampires.
Men are to wear suits. Nothing but suits, be it a suit of fine thread or a suit of fine armour. The usual colour of a suit is black or white; brown is a poor man’s colour, with the shirts being a pastel colour to show they have the money for dyes on all clothing. The cream of the crop tend to wear boisterous purple suits that show off their large budget (purple is a very expensive dye).
Sport:
There is only one sport upper class members of Shrenk’s rule care for – Jousting. Jousting is the definition of upper class culture, competitions are attended by everyone at one point or another. The jousters themselves are the most revered people of the culture; women would toss aside everything dear to them – Friends, family and all – to be with a jouster. Jousters are very well paid too, with competition winners earning enough money to support themselves for upwards of the next five years.
Jousting is a blood sport though, with the winner being the last man still able to stand. Victory is determined by knocking your opponent unconscious or killing them – Fatalities are a fairly common end to some of the tougher games. If one jouster knocks the other off his horse but he still stands, the one still on his steed must take additional runs at him until he can no longer get up. If both are de-horsed, a bloody brawl usually takes place on the ground.
Food:
Dining is quite simple, the rarer the meat the richer and more cultured you appear. Common meats include pork and beef, rarer meats include unicorn meat (which reportedly tastes foul and is extremely gristly) and guinea pig. Unicorn meat is usually eaten as a soup.
Upper class Anja are incapable of eating meat due to their structure, so their idea of rich eating is nonexistent – They simply eat bread and butter, or sometimes soup made with vegetables.
Upper class towns:
Hope (Capitol).
Red Vine Village.
Steel Raven Village.
