Ogres are a very simple race with few goals other than survival. Their desert life limits their time of activity and variety of locations to live.
Gender Equality
Males occupy roughly 85% of the population, the remaining 15% of females are treated much like Troglodyte females – Used for breeding to continue the race. Only the Shaman may mate though, and the Shaman’s position is challenged fairly frequently by other males. The competition is a simple sumo match – A circle is drawn in the sand and the two ogres fight until one exits the circle by any means.
Clothing
Ogres only wear scraps of animal skin that they have taken on the hunt, draping it over their body in whatever way they can to keep themselves warm, wrapping it around their waists or around their necks. They also cover themselves with paint depending on their tribe, they often use plants that are around their caves.
Everyday Life:
Ogres spend their time either sleeping in their caves or wandering around outside at night looking for food. Contests for the rank of Shaman are common, some even occurring during the day to add to the challenge – Losers of day time fights often die as a result.
Food:
Ogres eat anything they can find, the only thing they don’t eat is cacti. So long as it is digestible, and in some cases even if it isn’t, they will eat it. Even humans and Anja become snacks for the Ogre, and clothing or weapons they might bring with them becomes a trophy for the Shaman.
The Vision:
Visions are brought on by the intense heat of dawn, the Shaman stands out in the increasing heat until he faints and is dragged back into the cave. Whilst out in the sun or whilst unconscious they experience a vision, and that vision is used to guide the Ogres, whether it be a decision to move or a decision to change the pattern of their war paint. Most visions simply result in the Shaman changing the war pattern to be more in line with the Vizier’s will.
